Season 2001 and the 1st XI are in the North Lancs. & Cumbria Premier League!
The 2nd XI are in the Cumbria Cricket League Division 1. The 3rd XI are in the Cumbria Cricket League Division 2. The leagues have no promotion or relegation this year due to the Foot and Mouth disease that has affected quite a number of cricket sides around Cumbria.
The juniors will again be hoping for a promising season. We have new side in the under 11 St.Bees league. The under 13's and under 15's are both in their respected St.Bees leagues. With the welcome of our pro Steven Benjamin this season should be good for Wigton Cricket Club. Melbourne based Steven Benjamin is our first overseas pro. After our brilliant 2000 season taking the championship by a huge margin of 39 pts the premier league is set to be a harder challenge. However with succesfully signing Benjamin the challenge will not be quite as tough as before.
Steve is 21 years of age, a great left hand bat and a left arm orthodox spin bowler. Brian Ottway from Netherfield rates him from his playing career in Australia. He has yet to play a first-class game but has been in the Victoria squad. He gained a work permit due to his English grandmother.
As this Aussie arrives Scott Windley leaves. The amateur all-rounder was great for us last season but has moved to play for Workington.
However Graham Monkhouse is still player-coach and will hopefully have another great season after having the highest Wigton average of 49.13.
